Stainless Steel Pipe Cap

SS 304 Butt Weld Cap is a stainless steel pipe fittings which butt weld onto the exterior of a pipe to block off the end of pipeline system. The original material is stainless steel 304 plate. It could be seamless and welded depending on the diameter. Usually the larger diameter cap is weld. The normal size is seamless.

Pipe cap use steel plate as the starting material and are forged to get the shape, and it is more common in stainless steel. The end will be beveled for welding easily. It offers more robust connection and strength of the piping system. It’s usage and application is very extensive since butt weld end cap’s size range is wide from 1/2” to 48” with schedules.

A403 WP304/304L Cap Chemical & Tensile

Type 304/304L stainless steel is a T 300 Series Stainless Steel austenitic. It has a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, combined with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is a Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy.

As American AISI basic grades, the practical difference between 304 and 304L is carbon content only. They have carbon ranges of 0.07% maximum and 0.030% maximum respectively. The lower carbon content in 304L minimizes deleterious carbide precipitation as a result of welding.

However, 304L is common practice to be dual certified as 304 and 304L.

Carbon is a negative element in stainless steel, so the less carbon there is, the better the quality of stainless steel, and the more expensive the price.

So Stainless Steel 304 butt weld cap is an economical and versatile corrosion resistant cap suitable for a wide range of general purpose applications. It can offer permanent leak proof, add strength and power to the piping structure, reduce pressure losses.

SS 316 Pipe Cap BW End

SS 316 is higher grade than SS 304 butt weld cap. The molybdenum makes 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. ASME B16.9 Fittings Standard

ASTM A403 is stainless steel butt weld fittings material standard and ASME B16.9 is manufacture standard. But for low pressure corrosion resistant butt welding fittings, it is MSS SP-43 standard.  ASTM A403 Standard specification covers the standard for wrought authenticate Stainless Steel pipe fittings for pressure piping applications.
